Spent

23 10 2008

a great lunch time with a buddy of mine. We went to sit at a place called Buckpool Harbour to eat our sarnies and talk about Kingdommy things. Like – the interrelationship between the last chapter of Habbakuk, Hebrews Chapter 4 and the first eleven verses of Psalm 37. Love it! Or we talked about how we really DO the business of loving our wives as in Ephesians Chapter 5….what’s that look like, feel like, sound like and does it matter if they don’t get it, don’t like the way we do it, don’t express appreciation……which they often do, but just now and again you get the ‘Wall’! Any which way up the sun shone the wind blew and we ate and talked and laughed and prayed and then it was back to work for both of us. Smashing

This morning on Radio 4 I heard a presenter say that Twitter would replace blogging since the Aristocrats of the Technophile world [ whoever they are ] say that blogging is so 2004. I told my fellows Twitterers that if that’s the case I’m going to be SO 1999! Twitter’s a poor fifth to blogging if you ask me.

Today I’ve been wrestling with collating and analysiing some data from a recent drug switching audit. You guessed it – a shade underentertaing to put it mildly. Sometimes my job is as bad as watching paint turn green …..or something.

A friend sent me this a couple of weeks ago…it still makes me laugh. My Dad loved it too – so it’s obviously a genetic thing. Mind you, neither of us understand German.

As you can see from this mixed bag of a post… a quiet few days!

Aileen and John’s Wedding

14 10 2008

… took place at Fingask Castle in Perthshire on Friday October 10th. I had the great privelege of giving the address and sharing in playing one of the songs. It was a wonderful two days meeting some lovely people, even if not a few of them were from Oz! Aileen and John live in Sydney, Australia…or at least they will do when they get back from their honeymoon in the Maldives!

As expected the bride not only blushed but was a beauty – you can see how happy they are above. Fresh too since the photo was taken at the end of a long long day.

There’s something special about a marriage ceremony and the Mem Sahib and I were really blessed at this one too.

That was a week that was!

Billy and Christine’s wedding was simply lovely. The ceremony went really well, the setting being a lovely, small Celtic church just to the South of Elgin. It was a very bright but intimate atmosphere and the guests filled it. There was a sweet blend of UK’s and Continentals and the atmosphere from arrival at the church to the last waltz in the evening was one of such genial intimacy with a sweet service  [ Thanks to Julie Woods  of the High Church ], deep songs in both English & German, wonderful speeches and a lot of participation in the Scots style by the Teutonic Twirlers in their kilts especially during the ceilidh!

It was supposed to rain all day and certainly tried, but the bride’s mother, Barbara, remained confident throughout that it wouldn’t and it didn’t!

Brilliant to see all the offspring, daughters and sons in law and nieces and nephews and great niece  all together for the first time for ages. Andrew and Christa had flown in from LA !! We had a coffee with them on Sunday evening and  were really blessed.

Sadly our friends the Frembgen family left on Sunday leaving the house as neat and tidy as when they arrived. How do they do that?! But we know we’ve got a lot more time together to come.

On a completely different tack, I’ve invested in a wee notebook computer in an attempt to capitalise on those rare moments when it feels right to write! Maybe I’m kidding myself but I’ve felt for ages that I should attempt something and once or twice people have suggested I should…. so Vanity Away [!] and off I go!! I ordered the thing on Thursday at 5.50pm and it arrived THE NEXT DAY!!!!!!!! Amazing service from Exspansys…I’ll be back for more later on when I’ve learned how to use the thing. Mmmm – Linux! Nice!!

Ah! The Sandman has just told me to hit the sack before he hits me!

Bye and be Blessed.

Some bits

1 10 2008

It’s been really busy the last two weeks. The Mem Sahib and I have been getting the house ready to receive guests, we’ve had the bathroom dragged into the 19th century by having it’s tiles renewed and I’ve been doing quite a bit of extra work to cover the costs of a suspension collapse on my Audi, some bathroom fitments [inc tiles] and a holiday. In amongst all that we had friends over to dinner the other day and just had a great time catching up….specially since my pal is a bit of a gadget freak concerning vidcams and the like.

Also Jasciah continues to run deeply and smoothly with growth amongst us and also with others being added in. Can’t wait for the next one actually…it’s quite easy to see how the PostPentecostal church met daily from house to house….it’s such a blessing to form that kind of communion-community and hear what each has to bring.

The book club went well [ for me and the Mem ] tho’ we haven’t heard from the others yet but since one has cleared off to Oz for a month and the others are out of towners and equally busy that’s hardly surprising.

So right now we are hosting the family of my nephew’s fiancee all of whom hail from Cologne…not my nephew, just the others and the wedding is on Saturday. Really looking fwd to that. Our German friends are absolutely lovely and great fun. Wicked sense of humour the lot of ‘em!

We’ve got another wedding to go to next week. A friend of ours from Elgin had gone as a volunteer to Laos a few years ago, ended up in Oz, met a nice bloke and everything clicked into place…so she’s bringing him home for the wedding next week. That’ll be three times in about three weeks I’ll have worn a suit!

This weekend Louise and I attended the 200th Anniversary Service for Elgin Baptist Church in the local town hall. We had a lovely time with several rich, warm conversations with old friends. That’s where the suit link ties in… I wore a suit to that occasion as a mark of respect to a fellowship that continues with a steadfast witness to Jesus.

Well must dash – got a future rock star coming round for a guitar lesson! :)
