Luminescent Orchestrii – THE dance gig!

18 08 2007

Last night the MemSahib and I repaired to an auditorium not too far away to partake of an extraordinary evening of musical entertainment.

It was my first time ever at a dance gig – where the audience are encouraged and indeed expected to to move in response to the music on offer. Luminescent Orchestrii * who hail from New York are exactly the kind of musicians who make you want to move. It was difficult not to move some part of you if only fingers &/or toes ! On offer was a continual diet of sinuous Balkan, Hebrew, Romany tunes which were so sinuous that you squirmed if you sat still but flowed if you so much as shifted a leg. The punters were certainly on form with just two couples on the floor by tune number two – who improvised and entertained and impressed Big Style! In fact one of the blokes was BIG being well over six foot lots!!

After that the flood gates opened and the floor was packed with folks doing their knees-up, Thai Hand dancing, Tango, Highland Fling, Greek dance….. whatever you brought was fine and always seemed to fit. I just loved watching the freedom of expression & creativity.

However, the Mem and I simply watched, lost in the fusion of tempo, rythm, harmony and movement. It was so good I bought the cd “Too hot to sleep” [ check website and download 'em ] for only £8! [ Uusally I'd see if I could get it off Amazon 2nd hand - don't bother, not available] But we’ll be back after practising our own routines at home, ready for the band’s inevitable return

Check out the tour dates – they’re going to be in the UK a little longer, and if you like folk songs, Europe, violins and jazz and guitars and and and dancing , for Goodness sake go and see ‘em.

* Also one of the best websites I’ve seen for ages

New kid on the Blog

Every now and then, some one moves into your life and you just know that they are going to be really good friends. The kind that no matter how frequently or rarely you see ‘em, it’s always a fresh time. The kind of friends that listen as much as speak, that don’t mind the odd silent gap in conversations. You know the kind of people I’m talking about. You’ve either got pals like that or you want some!

Our friends , Tony and Pat, [ no pic available as yet ] moved up here about 2 years ago, located our fellowship via the web, and quickly showed themselves to be the dependable types you know you can rely on.

Well now, Tony’s gone and got himself tooled up with a blog called AllforJesus.  That’s about all the clue you need isn’t it!

Well – what a roller coaster life can be!

I’m still in the stage of learning such a lot about the ways of the Lord.

The last six months have been a real mixture of blessing, conviction, reflection, reconciliation, revelation and many other ‘ations!

I’ve been really blessed in having the luxury of so much time to read and have devotionals and in all that I’ve begun to discover [ for the first time in my life ] the mystic side of the walk.

I’m reading and / or have read or am re-reading several books at the present and here they are… some you may have read about in previous posts

Five Smooth Stones for Pastoral Work  by Eugene Peterson

The Latent Power of the Soul   by Watchman Nee

The Normal Christian Church Life  by Watchman Nee

Permission Granted to do church differently in the 21st Century  by Gary Goodell and Graham Cooke

God of Surprises   by Gerard Hughes

Been exploring the Third Day Church movement [ interesting paper ] along with Open Heaven Revival network , being intirgued and blessed by Rolland & Heidi Baker of Iris Ministries and learning about Healing Rooms which are now beginning to grow in Scotland.

In amongst all of this, I’m just growing deeper and deeper in love with Jesus and ….and…and….

Had a wonderful time of sharing with my Bishop last night who has really encouraged me and sent me a sharp vid clip which again I’ve found so consolidating.

I’m really not fully sure what the Lord is showing me or where He is taking me but I am greatly astonished at the quality of the journey.

Why am I not surprised?
